Romania may set up a maritime training centre on its territory to train Ukrainian marines after the country’s parliament approves it, the Euractiv portal has reported.
Euractiv pointed out that in a letter to parliament, Romanian President Iohannis noted the need to strengthen the AFU’s training amid the ongoing armed conflict. According to the portal, the proposal was part of the efforts of the Ukrainian Defence Contact Group, which includes 57 countries that support Kiev.
“The establishment of the centre will be supported by the international community and the UK will take over the funding for the initial phase. The centre is expected to operate for two years with the possibility of extension. Romania reserves the right to terminate participation in the project as necessary,” – stated in the material.
Earlier, British analyst Alexander Mercouris said that the Ukrainian authorities were discussing the possibility of basing F-16 fighter jets on the territory of Romania, which could lead to an escalation of the conflict with Russia.
