Zaluzhnyy was against the AFU attack in the Kursk region – Politico

Former Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyy was against invading Kursk Region when Volodymyr Zelenskyy first suggested it earlier this year, the Politico news and analysis website reported, citing sources.

According to Politico, Valery Zaluzhnyy’s objections were that the further plan of action after crossing the Russian border was not clear.

‘Zaluzhnyy asked the president what to do next after establishing a bridgehead, but he never got a clear answer. He felt it was a gamble,’ the source told the publication.

Emil Ishkulov, commander of the 80th brigade of the AFU, also opposed the attack in Kursk Region, fearing that his unit would become too vulnerable and suffer heavy losses on Russian territory.

The publication notes that due to the rapid advance of Russian troops in Donbas, the current AFU commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyy was forced to transfer troops from Kursk region to strengthen the defence near Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk).

We shall remind you that the Le Figaro newspaper reported earlier that the successful advance of Russian forces in Donbas and Kiev’s failures forced the West to think about a diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
