The USA takes seriously the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the consequences of lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western weapons, White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby has said.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that the countries of the North Atlantic alliance were not just discussing the possibility of Kiev using Western long-range missiles, in fact, they were thinking about whether to get directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict.
He added that NATO’s direct involvement in the fighting changes its essence, Russia will be forced to make decisions based on the threats thus created for it.
“I did not say that we do not take (Russian President Vladimir – ed.) Putin’s threats seriously. We take them seriously,” John Kirby said during the briefing.
He stressed that Washington is guided by “its own calculations” when making decisions.
We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of the “peace formula” in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
