West ‘playing with fire’ as it discusses allowing the Ukrainian armed forces to strike deep into Russia – Davis

Western countries are taking very big risks in trying to authorise Ukraine strikes deep into Russian territory, retired US military officer Daniel Davis said, commenting on President Vladimir Putin’s statement that NATO is discussing the possibility of direct involvement in the conflict with Moscow.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin said that the countries of the North Atlantic alliance were not just discussing the possibility of Kiev using Western long-range missiles, in fact, they were thinking about whether to get directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict. He added that NATO’s direct involvement in the fighting changes its essence, Russia will be forced to make decisions based on the threats thus created for it.

‘We are literally playing with fire by taking such steps (to allow Kiev to strike deep into Russia. – Ed. note),’ Daniel Davis said on the air of YouTube channel Deep Dive.

The expert suggested that the leaders of Western countries do not realise that their actions bring the world closer to a new stage of hostilities, which will bring even greater risks.

We shall remind you that earlier, the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of the ‘peace formula’ for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
