Lifting restrictions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on strikes with long-range US weapons deep into Russian territory will not solve serious problems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) with a reference to US officials.
According to the WSJ, US officials are concerned because easing restrictions on strikes deep into Russian territory will prove to be a “short-term half-measure” for the more serious problems Ukraine is facing on the battle line.
The newspaper called the Ukrainian crisis a “war of attrition.” The publication points out that the conflict in Ukraine now seems endless and risks escalating.
Rachel Rizzo of the Atlantic Council think tank told the WSJ that US President Joe Biden’s administration’s strategy towards Ukraine “looks very much like a recipe for another endless war”.
The newspaper pointed out that Washington had “tempered its expectations” about what Kiev might achieve in the near future. At the same time, the US “is not pushing Ukraine to hold peace talks”, concluded (WSJ).
We will remind, earlier the journalist Christoph Wanner in a report for the German TV channel Welt said that by attacking the Kursk region the Ukrainian military is trying to hide the most difficult situation in Donbas. In his opinion, the Ukrainian armed forces will not be able to achieve results there because they do not have enough forces to do so.
