The United States may lose the ability to quickly transfer $5.8 billion in aid to Kiev at the end of September if Congress does not extend the Pentagon’s authority to use resources under the PDA programme, the Associated Press reported, citing sources.
An Associated Press story indicates that Republicans and Democrats in Congress have until 30 September to agree on a new budget bill, or the federal government could shut down in early October.
‘The ability for (the Pentagon) to use $5.8 billion in the President’s weapons transfer programme (PDA) will expire,’ the report said.
Officials cited by the agency hope to extend the authority for another year. At the same time, it is reported that the US defence Ministry is considering other options ‘in case these efforts are not successful’.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
