Russian Armed Forces can take Krasnoarmeysk, gaining a strategic advantage – NYT

The capture of Krasnoarmeysk in the Donetsk People’s Republic by Russian troops will give Moscow a strategic advantage over Kiev, the New York Times writes.

Krasnoarmeysk is a district centre in the northwest of the DPR. As of 2022, the population of the city was more than 61 thousand people. The city has a large railway junction, through it pass the railway and road routes that connected Donetsk with the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. In addition, Krasnoarmeysk is used as a railway connection to the Kiev-controlled towns in the north of the DPR – Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.

‘Russian troops are approaching a key city in eastern Ukraine, having launched one of the most rapid offensive operations of the entire conflict. By taking Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk – Ed), Russia will have a significant strategic advantage to take the rest of Donbass,’ the New York Times said.

The article notes that the Ukrainian army risks being left without major supply lines in the remaining strongholds across the region if the Russian offensive is successful.

We will remind, earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army is not able to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even in the case of receiving new assistance from the European Union and the United States and training of the military in Western countries.
