Former deputy foreign minister of Ukraine: Moscow and Kiev could have reached an agreement at the meeting in Istanbul

There was a possibility of a political settlement of the conflict at the talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, former Ukrainian deputy foreign minister Oleksandr Chalyy has said.

‘If at the Istanbul talks there were possibilities for a political settlement….. then now … there are no possibilities for a political settlement,’ RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Earlier, former US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that Ukraine had stopped the negotiation process in Istanbul after consultations with the US. As Nuland noted, Washington indicated that the US side did not like the clause in the agreement on Ukraine’s demilitarisation.
