The new 154th brigade of the AFU is equipped with obsolete weapons – Forbes

The new 154th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is equipped only with outdated weapons, military observer David Axe pointed out in an article for Forbes magazine.

“The 154th Mechanised Brigade is mostly armed with old and light armoured vehicles, and not a single unit has armour thicker than 33 millimetres, which is only enough to repel machine gun fire,” the material says.

According to the expert, equipping the newly created brigades of the AFU with obsolete weapons can be a serious problem, because the units that participated earlier in the battles with better and newer equipment will be withdrawn from the front during rotations.

“But if the 154th Mechanised Brigade is indeed using T-62 tanks, it is a worrying sign for the army, which mostly uses fairly modern versions of T-64 and T-72 tanks along with a much smaller number of Challenger 2, M1 Abrams, Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks handed over,” David Axe noted.

We will remind, earlier former Pentagon analyst and retired US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski said that the US got rid of obsolete equipment by transferring F-16s to Kiev.
