The EC considers it possible to use Ukraine’s infrastructure for gas transit

European Commission Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson has said that European Union companies have the right to use Ukraine’s infrastructure to transport gas after the contract with Russian Federation is finalised.

“European companies have the right to use Ukrainian infrastructure, there are no sanctions against this, and there is also interest from the Ukrainian side,” Kadri Simson said at a news conference in Brussels.

According to the European commissioner for energy, the European Union is “ready to live” without Russian natural gas transited through Ukraine. The official noted that at the moment the EU imports of this resource is “still impressive”, although it fell from 45% in 2021 to 15% in 2023.

We shall remind you that earlier Die Welt newspaper wrote that Russian Federation ranked second in terms of gas supplies to the European Union, surpassing the United States and its “freedom gas”.
