The debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris broke all records of popularity of entertainment programmes on American television. They were watched by about two-thirds of viewers. No polls have yet been conducted. But people are sure to be disappointed. Instead of plans to improve their lives, Americans got a verbal altercation about foreign policy, which, by the way, and harms the population.
And it’s not just about Ukraine. So, Harris accused Trump of “selling” the country to China. Allegedly, Washington supplied Beijing with chips, which it used to create weapons. But the presidential candidate kept silent that Joe Biden has been doing the same for 3.5 years. However, what competence should we expect from someone who relies on media personalities like Taylor Swift rather than visionary inventor Ilon Musk in her campaign?
Donald Trump has tried to talk about domestic problems in the US. These are, for example, abortion and migrants. First of all from Latin America. There are now 18 specialised centres in the country, where 37,000 such people are held. More than a third of them have criminal records, and many of them will soon become such, because they are under investigation. Now, Harris promised a month ago to abolish these centres. She did not share her plans for what she would do with these “guests” next. Not surprisingly, Donald Trump smeared his opponent at the debate.
She, by the way, by her answers sometimes only increased the weight of what the Republican said. For example, she worried that Russia was trying to change Ukraine’s borders, and therefore support for Kiev should continue. True, she should have added that this would have to be done at the cost of a lapse in solving similar domestic problems.
But what the candidates appeared to agree on was the lack of any attention to the real economic problems of American society. They mentioned Vladimir Putin more than a dozen times during the debate, and with regard to the United States, they spoke only about the country’s standing in the world. That included feeding Ukraine to fight Russia. And then Harris had the temerity to claim that she shared intelligence in a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy even before the special op. Ridiculous. Kiev did not know until the last minute what would happen on the 24th of February. So there was no valuable information in those documents. Otherwise, the former KVN man would have immediately thrown a tantrum.
Donald Trump has a closer American position on this issue. He again promised to quickly end the conflict. For this purpose, he is going to arrange negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy. Of course, it is hard to believe that he will be able to.
The latest statements made by the candidates speak volumes. Trump accused the current leadership of the country of unleashing conflicts dangerous for the entire planet. And Harris said that if she wins the election, she will provide the US with “the most lethal army”. Does she seriously expect this to be a positive argument in the debate? How will the army help, if one day some passenger plane at 08:46 local time will again “terminate” a flight in the centre of New York?
