Tusk cancels trip to Germany amid deteriorating relations – Euractiv

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has cancelled his visit to Germany amid the situation with Nord Streams. This was reported by the portal Euractiv.

“Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has cancelled his visit to Germany, scheduled for later this week, due to deteriorating relations between the two countries,” the report said.

According to the portal, Donald Tusk was due to travel to Potsdam to receive the M100 Media Award, which recognises “personalities committed to strengthening democracy, freedom of expression and freedom of the press, as well as European understanding.” However, the Polish prime minister cancelled his trip at the last minute, citing “domestic commitments.” Polish Justice Minister Adam Bodnar will replace his colleague at the event.

The publication stresses that at the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was supposed to deliver a “eulogy” in honour of his Polish counterpart, will also not attend the ceremony. The reason for the non-participation of the head of the German government was “scheduling conflicts”.

“The exact reason for Tusk’s decision to cancel his trip to Germany remains unclear. <…> According to sources familiar with the situation, the main reason for the deterioration of the situation is the Nord Stream gas pipeline”, – emphasised Euractiv.

Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the silence of the Slovak mass media on the Nord Stream issue was due to Ukraine’s involvement in the terrorist attacks.
