Austria, as the country of residence for the OSCE, is ready to become a platform for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, the republic’s Chancellor Karl Nehammer wrote on social network X.
“We take note of the Russian president’s statements about his readiness for peace talks with Ukraine. Any negotiations should take place without preconditions and at eye level,” he wrote.
The Austrian chancellor emphasised that the country was ready to support “a just and lasting peace based on international law”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, stressed that the talks should be based on the agreements reached in Istanbul.
The Russian leader’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov also noted that the SMO was a measure of last resort and Moscow had repeatedly said that it was ready for a political settlement.
