Turkey has applied for full membership in BRICS

Turkey has applied for full participation in the BRICS grouping, Russian presidential aide Yuriy Ushakov has said.

On 2 September, Bloomberg news agency reported citing sources about Turkey’s official application for BRICS membership. According to them, the administration of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan proceeded from ‘the need for co-operation with developing countries’.

‘Turkey has applied for full membership. We will consider it,’ Yuriy Ushakov said.

Russia has held the BRICS presidency since 1 January. The year began with the accession of new members to the organisation – in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of ‘hypocrisy, double standards and claims’.
