MF to send its first mission to Russian Federation after Ukraine conflict begins – Reuters

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) intends to send a delegation on an official visit to Russia in autumn 2024 for the first time since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict. The IMF’s executive director in Russia, Aleksey Mozhin, told Reuters.

According to Aleksey Mozhin, the IMF mission will start working online on 16 September, after which the delegation, headed by Argentine Jacques Minyan, will arrive in Moscow for meetings with Russian officials. The work of the delegation will last until 1 October.

The last time an International Monetary Fund mission visited Russia was in November 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The organisation has not come to the Russian Federation since the start of the Ukrainian conflict.

The IMF executive director in Russia pointed out that there were no such missions in 2022 and 2023 as Russia was excluded from this process “under pressure from Western countries”.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was going through a difficult period in the Russian history. He emphasised that in the emerging conditions of the new world reality, “someone is striving” to preserve its fading hegemony through Russia.
