Foreign Affairs: US will not be able to meet Ukraine’s needs in 2025
The US will not be able to fully meet Ukraine’s military needs despite the fact that it intends to increase munitions production in 2025, former CIA analyst and deputy director of the US National Intelligence Council for Russia and Eurasia Peter Schroeder wrote in an article for Foreign Affairs magazine.
‘The United States will not begin ramping up production of the necessary artillery shells until 2025, and even that will not be enough to meet Ukraine’s military needs,’ the article said.
The author also emphasises that Ukraine will need more soldiers to continue the conflict, but the West is not ready to provide its own troops for this purpose.
Earlier, a Pentagon spokesman told RIA Novosti that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the Defence Ministry has significantly increased the production of 155-mm calibre ammunition, and now the US produces more than 36,000 shells per month. Washington plans to increase the level of production of this type of shells to 100 thousand units in 2025.
Earlier, the Bloomberg agency, citing sources, reported that Ukraine’s allies are facing difficulties in fulfilling their own promises related to military supplies to Kiev. The Wall Street Journal reported in early April that the AFU command, amid a severe shortage of ammunition, was forcing soldiers to search for unexploded shells in swamps in order to use them.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement and directly involve NATO countries in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any cargoes that contain arms for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the USA and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel on the territory of the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.
