Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said that Poland is obliged to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine, despite NATO’s position.
He said in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper.
‘Having NATO membership does not outweigh the responsibility of countries to defend their airspace. It is our constitutional duty,’ Sikorski said.
According to him, the country’s ‘duty’ is to shoot down missiles before they enter Polish airspace.
He said Warsaw should ‘ensure the safety of its citizens’ despite concerns that such interceptions would draw NATO into conflict with Russia.
Earlier, Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosyniak-Kamysh said that NATO was sceptical about Kiev’s proposal to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine.
