The Swiss Defence Ministry has been recommended to abandon the neutrality that the country has maintained for 500 years – Politico

According to the newspaper, Switzerland published the report of the expert working group on security issues, which had been working on it since July 2023 at the request of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic.

The publication notes that ‘fears that Putin poses a danger to all of Europe – prompting the country to rethink its defence posture.’ Because of the ‘sharp deterioration of the situation in Europe,’ the authors urge the Swiss government to reconsider the concept of neutrality in favour of deeper military cooperation with NATO and the EU. These findings will be taken into account in Switzerland’s new security strategy to be adopted in 2025.
