Slovakia at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels did not support lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s strikes with Western weapons on Russian territory, Politico newspaper reported citing an official.
On Thursday, 29 August, EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said that the countries of the association should completely lift restrictions on Ukraine’s strikes on the territory of Russia.
‘The weapons we supply to Ukraine must be fully utilised and restrictions must be lifted so that the Ukrainians can target the places where Russia is bombing them. Otherwise the weapons are useless,’ Josep Borrell told a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
This proposal was rejected by representatives of Slovakia, who supported Hungary’s position against Ukraine’s strikes against Russia. In turn, the initiative was supported by France, SMO, Latvia, the Netherlands and Poland, Politico pointed out.
We shall remind you that on 21 August, Josep Borrell said that lifting restrictions for Ukraine on the use of Western weapons would help ‘advance peacekeeping efforts’.
