US ATACMS missiles have lost their relevance for strikes on Russian territory and will be able to have minimal effect as Russia has adapted to the supply of Western weapons, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing US intelligence.
‘Despite Ukraine’s requests, the US administration has no intention of giving the go-ahead to use long-range ATACMS missiles deep into Russian territory. US officials and the intelligence community point for a significant decrease in the effectiveness of such attacks due to the fact that Russia has quickly adapted to the supply of Western missiles,’ the WSJ publication says.
The newspaper claims that Russia has relocated 90 per cent of its aircraft to airfields outside the range of the ATACMS versions supplied to Kiev.
‘This fact indicates that missile strikes at present, if they have any impact, it will be minimal,’ the piece said.
In addition, WSJ pointed out that the US has a limited stockpile of missiles, despite the increase in their production. Therefore, the Pentagon can transfer to Kiev only a limited number of ATACMS.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains its military in Western countries.
