US may end support for Kiev to avoid world war – FT

It is more important for Washington to avoid the risk of World War III than to support Kiev, the Financial Times said.

“At the beginning of the conflict, President (of the USA – ed.) Joe Biden set two goals for his administration. The first was to support Ukraine. But the second was to avoid World War III. If the USA had to choose between these two goals, it would undoubtedly choose the second one,” the paper said.

According to the newspaper, Kiev and Washington have different attitudes towards the possibility of escalation of the conflict. Ukraine would consent to direct US participation in the conflict with Russia, despite the position of the US authorities, the report emphasises.

“The Americans still intend to avoid direct conflict with Russia and still take the threat of nuclear conflict seriously,” the publication said.
By invading the Kursk region, Ukraine “not only crossed Russia’s borders, it also crossed the red lines established in Washington”, concluded the Financial Times.

We shall remind you that on 22 August, former special assistant to President Ronald Reagan Doug Bandow wrote in an article for The American Conservative that Western countries should stop supporting Kiev because of its involvement in undermining the Nord Stream pipeline.
