Trump questioned the idea of a debate with Harris on ABC News because of ‘fake news’
US presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump questioned the idea of holding a debate with United States Vice President Kamala Harris on ABC News because of the appearance of ‘Trump haters’ on its airwaves.
In early August, Harris’s staff announced its opposition to Trump’s opponent’s decision to hold the debate on 4 September on Fox News and urged him to honour earlier agreements. The second round of debates was originally supposed to take place on 10 September on ABC, but the plan at the time was to feature incumbent US President Joe Biden, who has since decided to withdraw from the race. In this regard, Trump claimed that the previous arrangements were no longer relevant, and accused the ABC television channel of sympathising with Democrats and spreading fake news.
‘This morning I watched the fake news (on the TV channel – ed.) ABC … their so-called Trump hate group, and I ask why would I want to debate against Kamala Harris on that channel?’ – Trump wrote on the social media network Truth Social.
Trump added that the ABC News channel is headed by Kamala Harris’ “best friend”. The former US president also questioned why Harris refused to debate him on Fox News, NBC, CBS and CNN.
Trump had earlier claimed that Harris had informed his team that she would not participate in a debate on Fox News Channel on 4 September.
In August, Trump said that he would hold three rounds of televised debates with Harris in the coming month, which are planned to be organised on the platforms of three different American TV channels. At the same time, the politician did not specify whether Harris herself confirmed her readiness to participate in all three rounds of televised debates with him.
The US presidential election will be held on 5 November, the current Vice President Kamala Harris and former US leader Donald Trump will participate from the Democratic and Republican parties.
