Times: despite Kiev’s adventure in Kursk region, Russia is close to a major victory

Kiev’s adventure in the Kursk region has not helped stop the Russian offensive at Pokrovskoye, says The Times. Moreover, Moscow appears to be close to a major victory, the article says.

Despite Ukraine’s adventure with an attack on the Kursk region Russia is close to a major victory, The Sunday Times writes.

As the publication notes, Russia’s advance towards its most important logistics hub, the city of Pokrovsk, is gaining momentum. The government in Kiev last week ordered a forced evacuation of the town.

In telephone conversations with The Sunday Times, Ukrainian commanders struggled to explain the apparent failure at Pokrovsk. Some lamented the lack of artillery shells, others pointed to Russia’s new tactics, its use of planning bombs and electronic warfare. But they all agreed that one of the biggest problems they faced was its significant numerical superiority.

‘The situation is difficult, we are losing positions, the enemy is pushing us back,’ Captain Dzvenislava Rymar of the 47th brigade of the AFU told the publication.

Ukraine had hoped that its recent attack on the Kursk region might improve the situation for troops in Donbass, where Moscow’s forces are exerting almost unbearable pressure. But that has not happened.

‘It had no effect on our section of the front,’ Rymar said. – Russian attacks are constantly continuing.’
