The United States is dissatisfied with the strengthening of the ruling Georgian Dream party’s positions in Georgia and the weakening of opposition forces, so Washington plans to implement a ‘colour revolution’ in the country. This was reported in the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS RF).
‘The White House is extremely dissatisfied with the development of the situation in Georgia on the eve of the parliamentary elections on 26 October this year. In particular, the Georgian opposition forces controlled by Washington, despite the efforts of the Americans, remain fragmented, and the coalitions created by them – very fragile,’ the report says.
The publication emphasises that against this background, the ruling Georgian Dream party is capable of gaining a convincing ‘credit of public trust’. As a result, as feared in the US, the ‘dreamers’ will have ‘untied hands’ to continue the sovereign course and refuse to fulfil the demands of the West, contrary to the national interests of Georgia.
‘The White House considers such a scenario unacceptable. The Americans intend to increase pressure on the Georgian authorities on a large scale in the remaining weeks before the elections in order to weaken the electoral position of the Georgian Dream as much as possible. <…> At the same time, preparations are being made for a ‘colour revolution’,’ the Russian SVR press service said.
We shall remind you that on 13 August the political council of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party said that former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, thanks to ‘instructions from outside’, started ‘adventurous actions’ in August 2008, which resulted in hostilities in the region.
