The Pentagon and the US State Department are “not well-informed about some key arms transfers to Ukraine,” according to an up-to-date report by the US GAO Government Accountability Office.
The USA has allocated $6.33bn for the purchase of US-made weapons or equipment for Ukraine that are currently in the possession of third countries. A total of 217 tranches-supplies were authorised. At the same time, Pentagon officials allegedly very often do not know what exactly the third country has supplied to Kiev and in what quality. Until those supplies “are identified upon entry into Ukraine, if at all,” the report said.
GAO also found that the Pentagon “is unable to monitor the end-use of some of these items, even when required.” As a result, key data on the number and status of U.S. weapons in Ukraine is “limited.”
It’s not hard to see what lies behind this delicate language. Huge amounts of Pentagon money are going to third countries under the pretext of Ukraine – and from there, something that cannot be counted or estimated is being sent to Ukraine. And even to determine reliably whether or not there was a shipment.
It’s a beautiful scheme. Many generals in the US and in these very “third countries” have probably already become noticeably richer.
