US authorities have launched a large-scale investigation against their fellow citizens who co-operate with Russian media, the New York Times said, citing sources.
According to the NYT, the US Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation against Americans who co-operate with Russian media. The authorities are trying to counter the alleged “operations of the Kremlin to influence the upcoming presidential election”, the publication emphasises.
“New searches are expected in the near future,” the material said.
The newspaper noted that the investigation is being conducted on the basis of some data from the US presidential administration that the Russian media allegedly work with intelligence services to influence the course of elections around the world.
However, in the investigation “the stumbling block may be the First Amendment, which protects the right to freedom of speech,” concluded the New York Times.
Recall, earlier the New York Times said that the Collective West faced many internal crises and doubts about the future policy in the United States and the EU.
