Finnish border guards will be able to track the movement of mobile phones near the border with Russia using radio technology. This was reported by the Finnish media.
According to media reports, after the adoption of an amendment to the law on the Border Service, border guards will be able to track the movement of mobile phones, but not information about the owner of the device. Also, the information transmitted by the devices will not be intercepted. In this way, officers will be able to understand the location and number of people trying to cross the border. Signal interception will be possible near the border on both the Finnish and Russian sides.
Radio direction finding technologies will allow to track any devices transmitting radio signals at a distance of up to 30-40 kilometres, including drones, the publication says.
Earlier, Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said that Helsinki was holding discussions with a number of NATO countries on the deployment of the military contingent of the military-political bloc on the territory of the state.
