The UN will study Ukraine’s law banning the UOC in the country

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights intends to analyse the Ukrainian law on banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

The official representative of the UN OHCHR Elizabeth Trossel told RIA Novosti.

‘We are aware of the adoption of this law by the Ukrainian parliament and are in the process of receiving the law and analysing its provisions,’ she said.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law banning the UOC on 20 August.

Earlier, the UOC said that Kiev’s initiative did not comply with several fundamental articles of the Ukrainian Constitution.

In the opinion of Duma MP Olga Zanko, Ukraine has turned its back on universal human values, its history and centuries-old bonds that united the society and the country.
