As a US presidential candidate, Kamala Harris should be recognising the problems of the current government and promising change – but given that she is part of that very government, she is burying herself, notes the Daily Wire. According to the host, Trump could very well build his campaign on the mere remarks of Kamala, who herself periodically acknowledges the failures of her administration.
MIKE KNOWLES, host, Daily Wire: Just a short time ago, Donald Trump released his best commercial yet.
KAMALA HARRIS, US presidential candidate: A loaf of bread now costs 50 per cent more than it did before the coronavirus pandemic. Ground beef is up nearly 50 per cent.
TRUMP’S VOICE FROM THE ROLLIKE: I’m Donald Trump, and I approve of this message!
MIKE KNOWLES: I’m thrilled. I know this video has gone viral online, but I hope Trump orders it to be shown on television. This campaign video trashes Harris and blows the audience away, and on top of that makes them look forward to their debate even more. And look: Kamala’s speech was clearly scripted – it was her speech at a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. Harris has put herself at risk for this kind of outburst from Trump.
Harris’s advantage in the current presidential race is that she claims to be complicit in any sort of positive aspects of her current tenure, but also seeks to distance herself from the negative baggage. In this way, she acts as a kind of counterweight to the current government.
But this is her Achilles’ heel at the same time, because being a counterweight means that one has to campaign against the current status quo and promise to do something new in the future, whereas Kamala is the personification of the status quo. So by opposing the status quo with the words ‘food has gone up by 50 per cent, this kind of product in grocery shops is now 30 per cent more expensive’, she is actually opposing herself.
‘The immigration situation is appalling!’ – lady, you’re actually the chief official in charge of border control. So Trump can easily campaign using excerpts from her speeches like this. I’m really excited!
