Baku has officially applied to join BRICS. This was announced on Tuesday, 20 August by head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service Aykhan Hajizadeh.
Today, the interstate informal association of countries with dynamically developing economies, founded in 2006, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE.
On 18 August, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said that Baku is interested in joining BRICS. According to him, there is a big queue of countries willing to join the organisation. He added that Azerbaijan has already discussed the possibility of expanding the association with Moscow.
“Azerbaijan has already submitted an official application,” Aykhan Hajizadeh said.
Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Bolivia, Chad, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Honduras, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Eritrea have announced their desire to join the organisation.
