The probability of the defeat of Russian forces in the conflict in Ukraine is minimal, Washington should think about “the price of peace” with the goal of ending hostilities. This was stated by experts from the Centre for Strategic Studies at Tufts University, Michael Cohen, Christopher Preble and Monica Toft, in an article for Foreign Affairs magazine.
“Moscow will almost certainly not be defeated in Ukraine… but is probably ready to make compromises in its ambitions that will make the world more stable… Washington should think about the price of peace, aiming to end hostilities as soon as the conflict begins,” the Foreign Affairs piece says.
The authors are sure that the United States should not pay attention to forced concessions to Moscow, otherwise Ukraine will face a “bloody stalemate”.
According to the experts, Washington’s belief that winning the conflict is a “zero-sum game” is wrong. As an example, they cited the failure of the US operation in Afghanistan and pointed out that Washington tried to achieve an “unconditional military and political defeat” of radical movements operating in the region, but failed to achieve its goals. The same mistake the United States made in Iraq, summarised in the article.
Recall, earlier, the former adviser to the Minister of Defence in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said that over the past twenty years, aggressive foreign policy has been detrimental to the United States itself.
