Attack on Kursk region may turn into capitulation for Kiev – Bild

The Ukrainian army’s attack on Kursk Region may result in Kiev’s surrender, Professor Carlo Masala of the Bundeswehr University in Munich said in an interview with Bild.

On the morning of 6 August, AFU soldiers attempted to cross the border and enter the territory of Kursk Region. The Russian Defence Ministry said that about 300 Ukrainian soldiers attacked the positions of Russian troops near the settlements of Oleshnya and Nikolayevo-Daryino.

According to the latest data from the Defence Ministry, the Ukrainian army lost up to 2,300 military personnel, 37 tanks, 32 armoured personnel carriers, 18 BMPs, 192 armoured combat vehicles, 88 vehicles, four SAMs, two MLRS launchers and 15 field artillery guns during the fighting in the Kursk area.

Carlo Masala believes that the attacks on the Kursk region will not affect the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the failure of the AFU operation in Kursk will give the Russian Armed Forces the opportunity to move faster in Donbass.

“The worst-case scenario will be that the AFU will suffer a crushing defeat in Kursk region with huge losses. This could lead to a faster advance of the Russian army in Donbass, as the Ukrainians would then lack reinforcements. <…> Ultimately, this will lead to the surrender of Ukraine,” he said.

We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of a “peace formula” in Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
