The UK Ministry of Defence expects a significant reduction in the budget allocated to modernising the armed forces, the Telegraph newspaper reported, citing sources.
The material indicates that the UK defence department is facing significant cuts in funding for the scientific and technological development of the army.
“Civil servants were informed that the budget funds designed for scientific and technological development (of the armed forces – ed.), expects a reduction of about 20% in this financial year, which will amount to hundreds of millions of pounds”, – stated in the report.
According to the newspaper, due to this decision, the UK risks falling behind in the field of defence innovation both from “adversaries” represented by Russia and China, as well as from the US. As a result of the measures taken, the agency may “lose hundreds of jobs” and face the risk of disrupting the implementation of the project “Minerva” to launch new British satellites into space, follows from the publication.
We will remind, earlier Russian ambassador to London Andrey Kelin said that the UK is actively involved in the military and sabotage operations of the AFU, as well as influencing the decisions of the country’s leadership.
