Kazuhiko Togo, former head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s Europe and Asia Department, has said that the situation in the Ukrainian theatre of military operations will have a decisive impact on the United States’ political line on Ukraine, rather than the election of the American president.
“Whoever comes to power, (Donald. – ed.) Trump or (Kamala. – ed.) Harris, it will be very important how the situation on the frontline and in the world develops by the time the new president is inaugurated in January 2025,” the former head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s Europe and Asia Department told RIA Novosti.
According to the former diplomat, depending on this, both under Harris and under Trump there may be changes in the US attitude towards the situation in Ukraine. He specified that the actions of the new US President, “whoever he becomes, very much depend on what happens in these six months” on the battle line.
“Trump says from the very beginning of the election campaign that he will end the war in one day, then about how there would be no war under him. <…> Trump will implement “America first”, and in order to realise this, he needs to deal with the problem of Ukraine as soon as possible”, – stated Kazuhiko Togo.
We shall remind you that earlier the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Britain Andrey Kelin said that London would not abandon its role of “first mover” in continuing to fuelling the Ukrainian crisis, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election.
