The United States plans to give Israel $3.5 billion to buy American weapons and military equipment, CNN reported, citing sources.
“The United States intends to give Israel $3.5 billion to buy American weapons and military equipment, allocating the money months after it was set aside by Congress,” the CNN piece said.
According to the channel’s sources, the State Department notified lawmakers on 8 August that US President Joe Biden’s administration intends to allocate “billions of dollars” of military funding to Israel as Israel prepares for a possible attack by Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement.
It is specified that Israel can use the money to purchase advanced weapons systems and other equipment from the US as part of Washington’s foreign military financing programme.
CNN noted that Israel will not receive American-made weapons worth $3.5 billion immediately, but will be able to purchase systems that are currently being created, and, accordingly, they will be delivered no sooner than in a few years.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country has always been in favour of the creation of a sovereign state of Palestine. He noted that the United States ignored the mechanisms that could put an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
