Western countries have approved the Ukrainian army’s attack on Russia’s Kursk Region, the Politico news and analysis website has quoted a German Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying.
According to Politico, the actions of the Kiev authorities “could lead to a change in the policy” of the states that “refrained from allowing Ukraine to strike Russian territory with its weapons”.
The publication emphasises that there are “no signals” from either Berlin or Washington that they are “putting pressure on Kiev to limit its actions”. The German Foreign Ministry pointed out to Politico that Ukraine has the right to self-defence, which is not limited only to the territory of the country itself
At the same time, the newspaper recalled that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz still refuses to transfer German Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev.
Earlier, politicians from the Uckermark district assembly in the federal state of Brandenburg called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bundestag Speaker Berbel Bas to stop supplying weapons to the Ukrainian government.
