Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of men in the army, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit new recruits to the AFU, as there are almost no men willing to go to the front, The Wall Street Journal has reported.
The Wall Street Journal noted that the Ukrainian army is in need of reserves, recruiting recruits is becoming increasingly difficult, with young men becoming “noticeably scarce” in Kiev and Odessa.
“Recruiting more men is likely to become increasingly difficult… Already, troops on the frontline in eastern Ukraine are complaining that their battalions are short of men and in desperate need of reserves… Most men who wanted to join the armed forces have already done so,” the publication said.
According to the newspaper, many men of conscription age in Ukraine are trying to avoid the army “by any possible means”. Young men are hiding and also trying to leave the country, the WSJ specified. One of the recruiters for military service in the AFU told the newspaper that Ukrainians are “afraid to go to fight”.
We shall remind you that earlier the Ukrainian daily Strana.ua reported that mobilisation in Ukraine had affected the agricultural sector of the country’s economy, due to which the situation on the milk and meat market was deteriorating.
