Kiev asks the U.S. to authorise the use of ATACMS on Russian airbases – WP

Ukraine is asking the United States for permission to launch strikes with long-range ATACMS missiles against airbases on Russian territory, the Washington Post reported, citing an unnamed adviser to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Ukrainian officials are now asking the United States for permission to use long-range ATACMS missiles to strike air bases that Russia uses for retaliatory strikes. Kiev believes these measures will allow them to hold on to parts of the Kursk region,” the Washington Post reports.

A source from Zelenskyy’s entourage told the newspaper that this way Kiev would like to get “leverage for negotiations with Russia.”

At the same time, Deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that the United States still does not support strikes by the AFU with American weapons deep into Russian territory.

“We do not support long-range strikes deep into the territory of the Russian Federation”, – said Singh during the briefing, commenting on the attack of the AFU in the Kursk region.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
