Reuters: Kamala Harris introduced the vice-presidential candidate on the national stage

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have embarked on a joint tour of swing states designed to introduce the U.S. vice presidential candidate on the national stage, Reuters reports. During his first appearance at a rally in Philadelphia, Walz spoke about his childhood, National Guard service and work as a schoolteacher, and lashed out at his Republican Party opponents.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her vice presidential pick Tim Walz have embarked on their first joint tour of swing states to introduce the Minnesota governor on the national stage, Reuters writes.

“He’s the kind of guy who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream bigger,” Harris introduced Walz before a 10,000-strong crowd in Philadelphia, listing his titles: husband, father, teacher, coach, veteran, congressman, governor. According to Harris, another one will be added in November: vice president of the United States.

During his speech to supporters, Walz himself spoke about his childhood in Nebraska, his 24 years in the National Guard and his work as a school teacher. “It was my students who encouraged me to run for this office. They saw in me what I hoped to instill in them: a desire for the common good, a belief that one person can make a difference,” he said.

The vice-presidential candidate also used the speech to criticise the Republican Party and its candidates Donald Trump and JD Vance. According to Walz, the former president “makes a mockery” of the law, “sows chaos and discord,” and does not shy away from committing crimes. Walz also noted that Trump has already had a chance to prove himself as president, but he has failed in his duties, undermining the US economy and “stalling in the face of the coronavirus crisis”.
