The current US laser systems are not suitable for suppressing hypersonic missiles, writes National Interest.
“The main limiting factor of lasers is their power, which <…> must reach at least a thousand kilowatts. This is more than three times the power of the most modern deployed tactical laser system,” reads the publication National Interest.
The magazine noted that the problem in the use of laser installations can be various substances that are in the planet’s atmosphere, such as water vapour, sand, smoke, which have a scattering effect on laser beams.
“The military is shocked. <…> Despite various achievements, <…> modern laser systems can not yet boast reliability against hypersonic missiles,” the article states.
We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains its military in Western countries.
