Iran’s strike against Israel in response to the assassination of Palestinian Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran could be more powerful and unexpected than in April, as the Islamic republic is not informing anyone of its plans, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The Wall Street Journal recalled that last time, in April, Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles toward Israel, notifying diplomats in advance and giving the U.S. and the Jewish state a chance to prepare. Most of the projectiles were eventually intercepted. This time, Israel and allies are operating “in a vacuum,” the newspaper pointed out.
The publication claimed that US and Arab diplomats are facing “angry silence” from Iran and Hezbollah as they prepare to avenge the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the politburo of the radical Palestinian Hamas movement in Tehran, and Lebanese military chief Fouad Shokr in Beirut.
An unnamed U.S. administration official told The Wall Street Journal that the United States was being cautious because it saw no indication of an Iranian decision on what the retaliatory strike on Israel would be. According to him, it is possible that this will happen in the next few days.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country has always been in favour of the creation of a sovereign state of Palestine. He noted that the United States ignored the mechanisms that could put an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
