The US State Department says it believes that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia has won Venezuela’s presidential election.
This is stated in a statement of the State Department.
The US Department said that the results of the vote in Venezuela are “erroneous” and allegedly “do not reflect the will of the people”.
According to the State Department, the announcement of Nicolas Maduro as the winner of the presidential election was not accompanied by any evidence. Meanwhile, Edmundo González Urrutia, according to the agency, won more votes.
“We congratulate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia on a successful campaign,” the statement said.
Earlier, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said Russian observers assessed that Maduro had legitimately won the election.
The USA insists that members of the global community should recognise Gonzalez as the winner.
