Human Rights Watch has condemned the FRG for storing US cluster munitions

The German Government, contrary to its own statements, is assisting Washington in storing cluster munitions and transferring them to Kiev. Germany should adhere to the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, Human Rights Watch has said.

“Germany has publicly opposed the transfer of banned cluster munitions, but new evidence suggests it may be facilitating it. This contradicts Germany’s longstanding support for the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions,” Human Rights Watch said in a statement on its website.

The organisation pointed out that Germany was one of the first 30 countries to ratify the Convention on Cluster Munitions, but has allowed the US to host an arsenal of these projectiles on its territory and is helping to transport them, including to Ukraine.

“Germany should tell the US to remove its stockpile of cluster munitions immediately. It should clearly oppose any transit of cluster munitions through its territory, airspace or waters”, – summarised in the message.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from its positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
