US cannot guarantee Ukraine’s victory on its own – O’Brien

The United States cannot alone guarantee the success of the Ukrainian army in the confrontation with Russia, said Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien.

“I absolutely agree that we cannot win this conflict alone,” James O’Brien said, speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

He said the United States, in cooperation with its allies in Europe, is working not only to increase aid to Kiev, but also to ensure that appropriations for these needs are spent in a “prudent” manner. In addition, Washington and its NATO allies are beginning to develop a new strategy for further engagement with Russia, he added.

In addition to the Ukrainian issue, the Assistant Secretary of State also touched upon the situation in Armenia during his speech, noting that the United States seeks to help the country gain economic and energy independence.

“It (Armenia) is almost completely dependent on Russia for energy and economy. We need to diversify its policies so that Armenia can take the bold steps that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is pushing the country to take, which would mean cutting ties with Russia,” O’Brien said.

Earlier, US entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk called it a problem that the US authorities have no goal in the conflict in Ukraine.
