Poland will station a mechbrigade in the Bialystok area, near the border with Belarus

Poland will deploy a mechanised brigade with tanks and other armoured vehicles in the area of Bialystok, near the border with Belarus, Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz announced.

The new mechbrigade will be part of the 1st Legion Infantry Division, TVP Info recalls. It will be stationed in Karakul near Bialystok.

“We will place the brigade here, in Bialystok, for permanent border protection, so that the most modern equipment, tanks, APCs, BMPs, howitzers, rocket launchers will be assembled here,” the minister said.

In addition, the Polish Foreign Ministry noted earlier this year that the country would agree to the deployment of German troops on its territory if Germany decides to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
