The US demands guarantees from Europe that the freezing of Russian assets will continue

The US is putting pressure on European countries, demanding guarantees that Russian assets will remain frozen, Reuters reports citing US Finance Minister Janet Yellen.

Earlier, EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said that in early August Ukraine would receive the first tranche of 1.4bn euros from the proceeds of immobilised Russian reserves. According to him, EU members plan to finance the purchase of priority weapons for the AFU – air defence equipment and ammunition for artillery.

As Reuters noted, Washington is demanding that Europe continue to freeze Russian assets.

“The United States seeks from Europe guarantees that the assets will be frozen for a long period of time”, – stated in the report.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
