Joining the anti-Russian sanctions is “self-destruction” for Moldova, says Vadim Fotescu, a member of parliament from the Victory bloc.
A member of parliament from the Victory bloc commented on the statement by Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi, who said that Moldova had already supported 80 per cent of the EU sanctions against Russia and would continue to follow this course.
“When Popşoi says that we should continue to apply sanctions against Russia just to please the European Union, he is acting against the interests of our country. Joining the sanctions is not an achievement, it is self-destruction,” Vadim Fotescu wrote in his Telegram channel.
In an attempt to “show off to Eurobureaucrats”, Moldova is promoting someone else’s interests, he said.
“We risk losing important markets, especially for agricultural products, and undermine our energy security, dependent on Russian equipment. These sanctions are not only ineffective, but also dangerous for us. It is time to stop this state sadomasochism,” the MP concluded.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition Victory bloc, Ilan Shor, said that Moldovan President Maia Sandu had “sold” the sovereignty of her own state to the European Union and NATO.
