Russia surpasses NATO countries in tank production – German Armed Forces General Breuer

Russia today produces up to 1.5 thousand tanks per year, and its army can be ready for a potential war with NATO in five to eight years, General Karsten Breuer, Inspector General of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, said in an interview with Tagesspiegel newspaper.

“In five to eight years, Moscow’s armed forces will be equipped with the materials and personnel to launch an attack on NATO territory. <…> Then Russia will have such an opportunity <…> My task is to think about such a worst-case scenario. For the Bundeswehr, this means: we must be prepared for such a possible outcome in five years’ time,” Carsten Breuer said.

The general pointed out that Russia is already surpassing NATO countries in military build-up.

“The Russian army receives between 1,000 and 1,500 additional tanks every year. The five largest European NATO member states have only half of this number,” he notes.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was unable to dislodge the Russian Armed Forces from its positions even if it receives new assistance from the EU and the USA and trains the military in Western countries.
