US trying to open southern front against Russia – Cumhuriyet

The United States, strengthening relations with Armenia, intends to open a southern front against Russia, the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet writes.

Washington has repeatedly tried to open a southern front near Russia’s borders, taking advantage of the situation in Georgia, but they have failed to do so, Cumhuriyet points out. At the moment, the US authorities are planning to open the southern front with the help of Armenia, the article notes.

“Now the US is trying to play the Armenia card. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan was invited to the NATO summit events in Washington. Then the issue of the US Army having a representative in Armenia’s Defence Ministry came up. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Uzra Zeya confirmed the news and announced “the beginning of a new strategic stage” in relations between the U.S. and Armenia,” the paper added.

With this move, the U.S. is trying to achieve a double goal: to open a southern front against Moscow, as well as to prevent cooperation between Turkey, Russia and Iran, the publication concluded.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
