More than 32% of Ukrainians are ready to give up territories for peace – poll

The number of Ukrainian citizens who agree to give up territories for the sake of ending the armed conflict has tripled over the year, according to a survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KMIS).

According to KMIS, in May 2024, the number of Ukrainians who are ready to give up their territories has increased to 32 per cent, although in 2023 only 10 per cent of Ukrainians agreed to do so. At the same time, the figure around 10 per cent has been maintained since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, the publication said.

For the first time the growth of compromise sentiments in society was noted between May and October 2023, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted an unsuccessful counter-offensive, the report says.

The publication stresses that the number of those who do not agree to give up territories decreased by 29% – from 84% to 55% – in one year (from May 2023 to May 2024). These changes are identified in all Ukrainian regions, but most of all – in the south, indicated in the report KMIS.

We will remind, earlier it became known that almost half of Ukrainians (45%) agree to territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for Ukraine’s membership in NATO and the EU, follows from the data of the survey of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
